1. LaDainian Tomlinson, San Diego Chargers
L.T. was once again the top fantasy running back for last season. He again led the league in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. Adrian Peterson is an up and coming star but L.T. is still the best RB as well as the best player in the entire league. Tomlinson should be taken #1 in all fantasy league drafts.
2. Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings
Peterson’s rookie season was a great success for fantasy owners. He finished the season second in rushing yards with 1,341 and second in touchdowns. Now with a season of experience look for Peterson to have a better year than he did last year. The only down side to Peterson is the new arrival Chester Taylor who will split time but I would not be turned off by him. This will just allow Peterson to be more fresh when he is in the game.
3. Brian Westbrook, Philadelphia Eagles
Brian Westbrook is the entire Eagles offense. He can run the ball efficiently as he showed last year where he rushed for 1,333 yards which was third among fantasy RB’s. He also is a great pass catching RB. Last year he caught 70 passes for 771 yards which makes him a valuable asset to the Eagles as well as fantasy owners.
4. Joseph Addai, Indianapolis Colts
Last season Addai rushed for over 1,000 yards but what fantasy owners loved was his 12 touchdowns that tied him for second place among running backs. With all the weapons that are on the Colts offense Addai will continue to be among the top RB’s in any fantasy league.
5. Clinton Portis, Washington Redskins
Portis has a history of injuries but has always been a great fantasy RB when he plays. I am really high on him because he is a good runner and when the Redskins are in the red zone he knows how to get into the end zone. I have him 5th of the RB’s but look for him to be around in the early second round which would be a nice steal.
6. Steven Jackson, St. Louis Rams
He finally ended his holdout and received the big contract he was looking for. Last year he finished 17th in rushing yards. Jackson did not turn in a great fantasy year last year but is looking to rebound in 2008. Jackson is a hard nosed runner who knows how to get into the end zone. Last year he only rushed for 5 touchdowns but look for him this year to really break loose and carry the load for the Rams.
7. Marion Barber, Dallas Cowboys
Although I rated Marion Barber 7th in RB’s I think he is one of the better fantasy RB’s because this year he will be the number one guy. He will continue to get carries near the end zone along with more rushing yards. He would be a steal at the end of the first round or early second.
8. Marshawn Lynch, Buffalo Bills
Lynch had a decent fantasy rookie year. After a year of experience under his belt and a staggering QB in Trent Edwards he is going to have to carry the load and he will be prepared to do so. Look for Marshawn to increase his rushing yards as well as his touchdowns.
9. Ryan Grant, Green Bay Packers
Grant had a spectacular year last year for fantasy owners who were quick to pick him up. He came out of no where last year but this year Ryan Grant will be a top 15 pick in all fantasy leagues. Look for him to score more touchdowns and rush for more yards not that Brett Favre has been traded. He will have to carry the load to help out first year starter Aaron Rodgers.
10. Frank Gore, San Francisco 49ers
11. Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville Jaguars
12. Thomas Jones, New York Jets
13. Jamal Lewis, Cleveland Browns
14. Willis McGahee, Baltimore Ravens
15. Willie Parker, Pittsburgh Steelers
16. Brandon Jacobs, New York Giants
17. Larry Johnson, Kansas City Chiefs
18. Darren McFadden, Oakland Raiders
19. Laurence Maroney, New England Patriots
20. Edgerrin James, Arizona Cardinals
21. Reggie Bush, New Orleans Saints
22. Earnest Graham, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
23. Michael Turner, Atlanta Falcons
24. Ronnie Brown, Miami Dolphins
25. Fred Taylor, Jacksonville Jaguars
